Club History

Thistles Ladies Hockey Club (est. 1938) is the oldest hockey club participating in the local Ipswich hockey competition. The Club caters for all levels of playing experience, consisting of teams for Women (Over 15 yrs) and Junior teams (U15, U13, U11 years) plus also catering for the younger children 4 - 8 years, who participate in a Hook in2 Hockey Program. Boys are more than welcome to play in the Hook in2 Hockey program as it is a mixed program.


All new players to the Club will receive a hockey pack, making their introduction to the game easier with the right equipment.


Thistles’ has been very successful over the years winning many premierships in all grades. Most recently in 2018 in the Senior Competiton, the R2 Team were Runners up and A2 team were Minor Premiers and Runners up.

The Junior teams did well in the 2018 season, with the C Grade (U15) Girls team being undefeated all season, and where winners of all trophies for that grade - Mid Season, Minor Premier & Premiers. The D Grade played in the knocked out semi final and that was the end of the road to the final.  The young E Grade team just missed fourth place and missed out on a play in the final series.


Training days for Thistles Junior teams in 2019 are Thursday afternoons with juniors commencing at 5 pm and finishing at approximately 6.30 pm. The Senior teams train in the evening from 6.30pm and finish at 7.30 pm.  All training takes place at the Ipswich Hockey grounds, Briggs Road, Raceview. All the local competition is conducted at these grounds.



All Club Coaches are NCAS/HockeyEd accredited.


The hockey season runs from March to September. Come and try out the new water and hybrid based facilities as all players use these artificial surfaces.


The Club welcomes all new players regardless of their level of hockey. Club fees are reasonable and discounts are given.
